Tesla feature idea: Follow Mode

I've been driving with FSD a lot lately, and one idea keeps coming back to me. I call it Follow Mode.

Lock onto the car ahead and follow its path, not just its speed. Cruise control already matches speed. This would match the line. It changes lanes, you change lanes. It takes a gentle curve, you take the same curve.

Where I'd use it: following a friend to a place I don't know, or two cars heading out on a road trip together. No more "stay close, I'll wait for you at the light."

The cameras are already on the car, so this is mostly a software problem. The hard part is the edge cases. What happens when the car ahead brakes hard? Swerves around something? Takes an exit you don't want? Or someone cuts in between you? Each of those needs a clear answer before anyone should trust it.

Turns out I'm not the first to want this. Owners have been asking for some version of it since at least 2017, on Tesla Motors Club, Reddit, and Tesla's own ideas board, under names like Follow Mode, Caravan Mode, and Convoy Mode. A thread from this March drew more than 80 comments. As far as I can tell, Tesla has never responded. Consider this one more vote.
